A Kootenay National Park poster looking up the valley: a turquoise river braiding through gravel bars in the middle distance, sheer grey limestone walls rising on both sides, golden larches on the near slope, and a bank of pale broken rock filling the foreground.
About the artwork
The most vertical composition in the Canada parks series — the cliffs run almost the full height of the image and the river is squeezed between them, which is exactly how this valley feels from the ground. The rock is hatched along its bedding planes so the strata read clearly; the larches are picked out in ochre and gold against dark spruce, placing the scene in autumn; and the water is worked in three tones, from white where it breaks over shallows to deep turquoise in the pools.
The sheet uses the Canadian park service layout shared across this series: cream border, a line of small dark capitals along the top reading BRITISH COLUMBIA · 50.94° N, 115.98° W · EST 1920, and KOOTENAY in heavy condensed type at the foot over NATIONAL PARK with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Autumn, not summer. The golden larches date the scene to a two-week window in late September that people plan trips around.
- Rock drawn as geology. The strata in the cliffs are followed rather than suggested, which is why the walls look this heavy.
- Gold against turquoise. A warm-cool pairing that lifts a neutral room without needing another colour in it.
- Coordinates and founding year on the sheet. 50.94° N, 115.98° W, established 1920.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The larch gold makes this the warmest of the Rockies sheets, so it suits clay, camel and oatmeal walls where a pure blue mountain print would look cold. Espresso and walnut frames pick up the ochre; natural oak keeps it lighter. The strong vertical works well in a narrow space — a hallway, a stair wall, the gap between two windows.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What are the yellow trees? Alpine larches, which turn gold and drop their needles each autumn. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 1920.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
