This Kathmandu watercolor print shows the white dome and golden spire of Swayambhunath Stupa, strung with prayer flags above the Kathmandu Valley and the snowy Himalaya. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Kathmandu, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines define the thirteen-ring spire, the painted Buddha eyes, tiered temple roofs and small chaityas, while the dome is left as white paper with gray-violet shadows. White and gleaming gold sit beside leafy green and distant blue-violet, with marigold orange, maroon robes and colorful flags as accents. The stupa sits at center with its spire in the upper third, white shikhara towers stand on either side, and a gold-roofed tiered temple rises at right. Stone steps and small chaityas with monkeys fill the foreground as the valley spreads toward the snowcapped range. "KATHMANDU" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Monkeys on the shrines. A troop of monkeys perches on walls and small chaityas.
- Prayer flag lines. Colorful flags stream down from the golden spire.
- Marigolds and monks. Orange garlands and a maroon-robed monk add warm notes.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its white, gold and green tones suit a yoga room, living room or study with warm woods and woven textiles. It makes a meaningful gift for a trekker heading to Nepal or someone who has visited the valley.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Kathmandu? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Swayambhunath and the Kathmandu Valley, arranged to fit the temple, city and mountains into one frame.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "KATHMANDU," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
