A Jacob's Well Texas poster looking straight down into the mouth of the artesian spring near Wimberley. The shaft opens in the near foreground as a dark blue circle that drops out of sight, ringed by pale limestone ledges, with turquoise shallows running back up Cypress Creek, junipers along both banks and a small cabin on the far rise.
About the artwork
Painterly illustration with layered brushwork, closely modelled rock and no flat vector shapes. The palette is built around a single dramatic value shift: bone white and warm cream in the limestone, bright turquoise across the shallow water, then a fast drop through teal to near-black navy at the opening of the shaft. Grey-green junipers edge the frame, orange and red wildflowers sit in the near rocks, and the sky is deep blue-teal with a tall bank of cream cumulus. Type is printed in white low on the sheet: JACOB'S WELL above TEXAS. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The shaft is the whole picture — that dark circle is a genuine karst opening in the limestone, and it gives the print a focal point most water scenes lack.
- An unusual value range — bright chalk white to near-black in one frame, which is why it holds a wall from across a room.
- Hill Country geology — the ledges, the junipers and the clear creek all read as Edwards Aquifer country rather than generic lake scenery.
- A landmark with weight — Jacob's Well is one of the longest underwater cave systems in Texas, and the artwork treats it as something serious rather than pretty.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Chalk white limestone and deep teal suit cool, quiet rooms: white, pale grey or soft blue walls with pale oak or white furniture. A white or natural frame keeps the limestone clean; black framing deepens the shaft further. It works over a sideboard or in a bedroom, as in the teak sideboard photograph above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The image is graphic enough to work small, so 12" x 18" holds up in a hallway. 24" x 36" gives the shaft its full depth on a main wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads JACOB'S WELL with TEXAS beneath it, in white near the bottom edge.
What exactly is Jacob's Well? A perennial artesian spring on Cypress Creek near Wimberley in Hays County. The opening leads into a flooded cave system more than 100 feet deep with several narrow chambers below it, and that system has cost the lives of a number of divers over the years. It is a Hays County natural area with managed access, seasonal reservations and periodic closures when flow drops.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
