An Itasca State Park Mississippi headwaters poster looking back up the outflow toward the lake: shallow water running clear over a cobbled bed, granite boulders breaking the surface, red pines leaning in from both banks, a small weathered timber post on the left shore, and Lake Itasca opening out to a pale hazy horizon at the top of the frame.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges, but the water is where the technique shows — sunlight on the ripples is drawn as hundreds of small cream and pale gold facets scattered across bands of teal, cobalt and deep blue-green, with the stones on the streambed showing through as olive and tan patches. Around it the palette is cooler and simpler: charcoal and warm grey granite, three depths of pine green from sunlit needle to near-black shadow, rust-brown trunks, and a flat cyan sky washing out to almost white above the lake. The type is set at the top in white sans-serif capitals: ITASCA above a smaller, wider-tracked MINNESOTA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Where the river starts — this is the shallow stone-bedded outflow, not a wide river view, and it is unmistakable to anyone who has waded it.
- The water carries the print — the broken sparkle takes up nearly half the sheet and is the thing you keep looking at.
- Northwoods colour — pine green, granite grey and cold blue, with no warm accent forcing itself in.
- Calm at scale — no buildings, no figures, nothing to date it.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool blue-green and grey settle easily into a bedroom or a cabin-style living room, and they hold up well against white, pale grey or a deep forest-green wall. The sage room in the photographs above lets the pines carry straight into the wall colour. Natural oak and espresso frames pick up the trunks; white keeps the water reading as the brightest thing in the room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The sparkle on the water is made of very small shapes, so bigger is better here — 24 x 36 or 30 x 40 inches. Below 16 x 24 the ripple detail merges into flat blue.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Framed canvas ships stretched and framed in white, black, espresso or natural wood, with hanging hardware fitted.
What does the poster say? Only two words are printed, both at the top: ITASCA in large white capitals with MINNESOTA beneath it. The words State Park and Mississippi do not appear on the sheet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
