A Hudson Highlands State Park poster taken from a rock ledge on the ridge, looking south through a gap between two cliff faces. Two hikers in red packs stand at the drop-off, the Hudson River bends away below them past a wooded island with a turreted stone ruin, a freight train runs the shoreline track, and a bridge crosses in the far distance.
About the artwork
Painterly illustration with modelled rock and finely stroked foliage rather than flat vector shapes. The palette is cool and wide: slate blue and teal in the river, receding blue-grey in the layered ridges, deep forest green on the shoulders of the hills, warm buff and rust in the cliff walls that frame both edges, and a cream-to-teal sky under a long bank of sunlit cumulus. The two red backpacks are the only saturated warm accent and they set the scale of the whole scene. Type is set in white at the base: HUDSON HIGHLANDS above STATE PARK - NEW YORK. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Human scale on purpose — the two hikers tell you exactly how high the ledge is; without them the drop reads as half the size.
- A working river, not empty scenery — the barge, the rail line and the bridge keep the Hudson as the transport corridor it has always been.
- The gorge framing — cliffs on both edges narrow the view, which is how the Breakneck and Storm King ridges actually feel from above.
- Different from the neighbouring parks — this is the river overlook, not the lakes of Harriman or the summit at Bear Mountain.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The blues and greys are calm enough for a home office or study, and the red packs give a room with warm accents something to answer. It hangs well on soft grey, white or pale blue walls; black framing suits the crisp horizon better than natural wood. Above a desk or a narrow console, as in the sunlit console photograph above, it reads as a window.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The hikers and the distant bridge are small details, so 16" x 24" or larger keeps them legible. 24" x 36" is right above a sofa or desk.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads HUDSON HIGHLANDS, with STATE PARK - NEW YORK on the line below, in white at the bottom.
Where is the park? On the east bank of the Hudson in Putnam and Dutchess counties, roughly 60 miles north of New York City. It takes in Breakneck Ridge, Bull Hill and Pollepel Island, and Metro-North stops at Cold Spring and Breakneck put the trailheads within walking distance.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
