A Grossglockner alpine road poster drawn from the grass above the pass: the mountain road curling down the slope in three long hairpins, granite boulders scattered across the foreground, and the snow and glacier ice of the high peak filling the top third of the sheet.
About the artwork
Three depths, stacked. Nearest the eye are the boulders, drawn in flat planes of warm and cool grey with lichen on their shoulders and short alpine grass between them, dotted with small white flowers. Behind them the slope drops away in wide sheets of green, striped by the darker green of the gullies and patched with the last of the summer snow lying in the hollows. The road is a pale grey ribbon with a fine white edge line, and it does the real work of the picture — it starts small under the far ridge, swings back on itself twice, and runs out of the bottom of the frame, so the eye travels the whole distance. Above it all the peak is drawn in blue-white ice and bare dark rock, with a glacier spilling down between the buttresses under a deep, clear sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Austria beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The road is the subject. Hairpins you can follow with a finger, which is why drivers and cyclists take to this one.
- Real alpine colour. Cold blue-white ice above, warm green pasture below, grey stone holding the two together.
- Detail at close range. Lichen on the boulders, snow patches in the gullies, the white line along the tarmac.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green and stone-grey make this a calm print rather than a loud one, and it suits a study, a stairwell or a hallway where people pass it slowly. It works on white, greige and deep forest walls, alongside leather, wool and dark wood. Black frames suit the graphic road; natural oak softens it towards the grass. It pairs neatly with the Landwasser Viaduct or Creux du Van prints for an alpine group.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What wording is printed on the poster? The design reads GROSSGLOCKNER above AUSTRIA; the high alpine road and the peak behind it are the subject of the view.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
