A Paterson Great Falls travel poster taken from the gorge rim. The Passaic River pours over the basalt lip in a wide white curtain and boils away toward the viewer, dark columnar cliffs step down the left side, and the old brick mills with their tall chimneys line the far bank under a flat teal sky.
About the artwork
Hard-edged vector shapes with a strong screenprint feel, the falling water built from dozens of interlocking cream, ivory and pale blue slivers rather than any gradient. The palette is deliberately limited and mid-century: brick red and vermilion on the mill walls, olive-grey and charcoal on the rock, cream and duck-egg in the whitewater, and a single flat teal for both sky and river shadow. Distant office blocks sit in muted stone and sage behind the mills. Text runs across the top in white condensed capitals: PATERSON, with NEW JERSEY beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Industry and nature together — a seventy-seven-foot waterfall with a nineteenth-century mill district on its bank.
- Red against teal — a genuinely graphic colour pairing that few landscape prints get to use.
- Water as flat shapes — the falls read as carved ink, not photography.
- A New Jersey subject with substance — the birthplace of American industry, not a shore scene.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The brick red and teal are strong enough to set the tone for a whole wall, so keep the surroundings plain: white, bone or a cool grey. It works particularly well in a study or home office with dark wood and metal, and it sharpens up against the panelled white wall in the photographs above. A black frame suits the industrial subject; espresso works if the room already runs warm.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The mill windows and the water shapes both need a bit of room. 18" x 24" works over a desk; 24" x 36" suits a stairwell or a living room wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed text reads PATERSON across the top with NEW JERSEY beneath it. The waterfall itself is not named on the artwork.
Is this Great Falls, Montana? No. This is the Great Falls of the Passaic River in Paterson, New Jersey — a different place entirely from the Montana city of the same name.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
