A Goblin Valley illustrated print that puts you at ground level among the rocks. Big rounded orange boulders sit in the near foreground with sage and rabbitbrush growing between them, a field of mushroom-capped hoodoos spreads across the middle distance, and a dark blue-grey butte with a fluted crown rises behind. Cumulus drifts across a clear desert sky.
About the artwork
The rock is modelled rather than outlined. Each boulder carries a bright ochre top, a rust flank and a cool violet shadow underneath, so they sit heavily on the ground instead of floating on it. The hoodoos behind are drawn smaller and paler in stages, which is how the valley gets its distance. Vegetation is worked in olive, moss, blue-green and dry gold, with spiky yucca clumps in the bottom corners. The butte is the coolest thing in the picture, painted in slate and indigo with fine vertical fluting on its face, and that contrast against all the warm ground is what holds the composition. Type sits low on the sheet: GOBLIN VALLEY and STATE PARK on two lines, UTAH spaced below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Ground-level view. You are standing in the boulder field, not looking down on it from an overlook.
- Warm rock, cold butte. A single cool shape behind all that orange, which keeps the print from reading as one colour.
- Real desert planting. Sage, rabbitbrush and yucca are drawn distinctly rather than as generic green blobs.
- Odd shapes people ask about. The mushroom hoodoos are strange enough to start a conversation on a wall.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Ochre, rust and sage make this an easy fit for a home office or a hallway with cream, clay or oatmeal walls. It sits well on the stone-topped table setting in the photographs above, next to a warm lamp. Rattan, terracotta pots and unbleached linen all pick up the ground tones; a black frame sharpens the indigo butte if you want more contrast.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is a lot of small hoodoo detail in the middle band, so 18" x 24" upward is the better buy. At 12" x 18" the far hoodoos start to merge.
Does it come framed? Paper ships rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? GOBLIN VALLEY STATE PARK on two lines near the bottom, with UTAH in spaced capitals below.
Is there another Goblin Valley design in this shop? Yes. The other one is a flat vector poster of the same park, using simplified silhouettes and solid colour with no shading, a cracked desert floor and the name at the top. This painted version is the boulder-level view, with modelled rock, layered brush and the title along the bottom.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
