A Giethoorn travel poster along the water: a thatched cottage sitting right on the bank with its garden running down to a private jetty, a second cottage and an arched wooden footbridge further along, reeds crowding the opposite side, and the canal itself running out of the bottom of the frame.
About the artwork
Green is doing almost everything here, and the print survives it because the greens are properly separated — near-black under the trees, mid-forest in the canopy, a yellow-tinted green in the sunlit reeds, and a grey-green in the water. Against that the thatch is the warm note: drawn with its combed courses and clipped ridge so the roofs read as straw rather than brown shapes. Detail is concentrated at the cottages — window frames, brickwork, the timber of the jetty and bridge — and released everywhere else into loose foliage and hydrangeas. The canal has broken reflections rather than mirror ones, with a scatter of lily pads at the far edge. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Netherlands beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A village with no roads. Water where a street would be, which is the whole reason Giethoorn is famous.
- Thatch drawn properly. Combed courses and thick eaves, not a flat brown roof.
- The calmest print in the batch. Green and still water, nothing loud in it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Almost entirely green, which makes it restful and easy to place — white, cream and warm grey walls all suit it, and it sits naturally beside linen, rattan and pale wood. It is a bedroom, bathroom or reading-corner print rather than a statement piece. Natural frames work best; black closes the foliage in. It pairs well with the Plitvice Lakes print if you want a two-piece green wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? From a boat on the canal, looking along the water past the cottages toward the footbridge.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
