A Ghent travel poster along the old harbour: the row of medieval guild houses standing shoulder to shoulder on the quay with their stepped and scrolled gables, three church and belfry towers rising behind them, and the whole terrace laid out again in warm broken light on the dark water below.
About the artwork
Painted at the end of the day, and the light is the point. The sky is a deep teal that gets darker toward the top of the frame, and against it the facades are lit warm — ochre, sand, brick red, cream — each house given its own gable profile, window rhythm and hoist beam. The three towers behind are kept in near-silhouette so they read as mass rather than detail, which stops the top of the print from getting busy. The lower half is water: not a mirror but a scatter of vertical amber and rust strokes over near-black, with a pale wake line running across. Small lit windows along the quay repeat as points of gold. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Belgium beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Stepped gables in a row. The most distinctive roofline in northern Europe, drawn house by house.
- Warm light on a cold sky. A dusk palette that most travel prints never attempt.
- The reflection is half the image. Broken amber on dark water, not a flipped copy.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Because the sky is dark, this is one of the few prints in the series that looks better on a deep wall colour than a pale one — navy, forest green and charcoal all make the lit facades glow. Espresso and black frames suit it; pale oak drains it. It is a dining room or hallway print more than a bright kitchen one, and it pairs naturally with the Bruges print as a Flemish pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? From the quay on the opposite bank, looking across the water at the row of guild houses.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
