A Fishermans Bastion poster worked almost entirely in one blue: white stone turrets and terraces stepping down the hill, staircases folding back on themselves across the foreground, and the river and the far bank laid out flat beyond.
About the artwork
The restraint is the point — a single deep blue for every shadow, chalk white and pale grey for the sunlit stone, and one small run of warm orange roofs at the left as the only other colour in the sheet. The upper half is the bastion itself: a cluster of conical turrets around a taller one set on an arcaded drum, with arched galleries, small paired windows, carved spouts and a fretted parapet, all drawn stone course by stone course. The lower half is nothing but steps and balustrades — three flights turning back on each other, their treads picked out as fine parallel lines, with urns and newel posts at the corners and a steep tiled gothic roof pushing in at the lower left. Past the walls the ground drops to a flat blue river, a bridge, and a pale city thinning to nothing at the horizon. Title in wide-tracked uppercase reading BUDAPEST, with Hungary beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Near-monochrome. One colour family across the whole sheet, which makes it very easy to place.
- Stairs as pattern. The folded flights in the foreground read almost as a graphic in their own right.
- Turrets drawn in full. Arcades, spouts and parapets, not a simplified outline.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The cool single-colour treatment makes this the calmest print in the group, and it behaves well in a bedroom, home office or a narrow hallway. It suits white, pale grey and soft blue walls, and sits nicely with pale oak, linen, chrome and glass. A white frame keeps it light and almost architectural; black gives the stonework more contrast. It hangs well beside the Melk Abbey or Bern clock tower prints as a Central European trio.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this the terrace or the city? The terrace — its turrets and staircases fill the frame, with the river and the far bank kept small and pale behind. A separate Budapest print in the store takes the city and the river as its subject instead.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
