An Emerald Bay illustrated print looking down the bay from the trail above the west shore. Steep granite and conifer slopes close in from both sides, a small rocky island crowned with pines sits in the middle of the water, and a single white sailboat is moored below it. The bay opens out past a sandy crescent into the wide blue of the lake and the mountains beyond.
About the artwork
Water does the heavy lifting here, and it is painted in bands rather than one flat colour: pale jade over the sandbar, then teal, then a deep ink blue in the channel, all with fine ripple lines drawn across them. The hillsides are packed with individually drawn conifers over exposed grey granite, and the foreground boulders on the right carry visible cracks and lichen, with rust-red shrubs at the very bottom. Cream cumulus sits low over a hazy far shore, and the sky lightens from teal down to warm sand at the horizon. The title runs along the base: EMERALD BAY and STATE PARK on two lines, CALIFORNIA spaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The island reads instantly. Anyone who has been to Tahoe recognises the little pine-topped rock in the middle of the bay.
- Water in six blues. Jade shallows to ink-blue depth, which is exactly what makes this bay famous.
- One small boat. The sailboat sets the scale and gives the eye somewhere to land.
- Cool blues, warm rock. Grey granite and rust brush keep the palette from going all-blue.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Jade and forest green sit comfortably against off-white, pale grey or soft sage walls, and the print is calm enough for a bedroom or a bathroom wall. It works in the linen and teak bedroom in the photographs above, and equally in the arched alcove with plants either side. Oak or white frames keep the water bright; black frames make it read heavier.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The sailboat and the island are small elements, so 18" x 24" or larger is worth it in a main room. 12" x 18" is fine at close range in a hallway or stairwell.
Does it come framed? Paper ships rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? EMERALD BAY STATE PARK on two lines near the bottom, with CALIFORNIA in spaced capitals below. Lake Tahoe is not printed on the sheet.
Is there another Emerald Bay design in this shop? Yes. The other is a flat vector poster of the same bay: reduced shapes, solid colour areas, no shading or ripple detail, and the name across the top. This painted version has drawn conifers, banded water tones, foreground boulders and the lettering at the bottom.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
