An Eilean Donan Castle poster drawn from the pebble shore across the water: the grey stone keep and its curtain wall sitting low on a green islet, the arched causeway bridge reaching in from the right, and hills folding away behind under a pale sky.
About the artwork
Almost the whole print is built from one narrow range of blues, which is why the castle reads so clearly against it. The masonry is drawn course by course in warm grey and buff, with the tower's stepped gables, chimney stacks and small deep-set windows all picked out, and a low range of outbuildings running left along the rock. The bridge is the second subject and gets equal care — three tall arches, a lighter parapet, the stonework shading from cream to slate as it meets the water. Below, the loch is glass-flat and holds a soft inverted copy of the whole islet, ruffled only by a few fine pale ripple lines. Foreground boulders and a bank of rounded pebbles fill the bottom corners in cool grey-brown, and behind everything the hillsides rise in flat planes of moss and blue-green. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Scotland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A near-monochrome blue. Restrained enough to hang in a room that already has plenty going on.
- The bridge, not just the castle. Its arches give the composition a way in from the right.
- Still water, drawn honestly. The reflection is soft rather than mirror-sharp, the way a loch actually behaves.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Quiet and cool, so it works where a louder print would tire you out — a bedroom, a landing, a reading corner. Slate, dove grey and soft white walls suit it, as do heathery wools, dark stone and pewter. A black frame holds the blues together; a dark walnut or espresso frame warms them slightly. It hangs well in a run of three with the store's other Scottish landscape prints, which share this palette.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is the whole bridge shown? Three arches and the near parapet are in frame; the causeway continues out of the picture to the right, which is what keeps the castle central.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
