An Egeskov Castle poster looking across the gardens: a clipped box maze filling the whole foreground, and beyond it the red-brick castle standing straight out of its moat with copper-green spires and stepped gables.
About the artwork
The maze is the surprise, and it takes the bottom half. Hedge walls are drawn as solid slabs of foliage with sunlit tops in yellow-green and shaded sides in deep blue-green, each leaf mass built from small strokes, and a sandy path curls in from the bottom left so you can see the route. Beyond the maze the ground drops to a moat drawn in flat dark water, with a formal parterre of low hedging on the far bank cut into scrolls and squares. The castle rises directly from the water: warm red brick with pale mortar courses, ranks of white-framed windows, stepped gables, tall chimney stacks, and slate-blue conical spires with small finials and a red pennant at the top. Two mature trees flank it, and a leafy branch hangs in from the top right corner. Behind, flat Funen farmland runs off in green and gold strips to a low horizon under a pale sky with soft cloud. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Denmark beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The maze in the foreground. A pattern you can trace with your eye before you get to the building.
- Brick red against six greens. One warm block in a mass of foliage, and it does all the lifting.
- Water at the base. The castle stands in its moat, which is the detail that makes it Egeskov.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green and formal, so it takes well to a dining room, a study or a hallway with some architecture to it. Try it on soft sage, olive, warm cream or a deep green wall; it also lifts a room full of dark wood, brass and botanical prints. Natural oak keeps the garden feeling, espresso or black gives it more weight. It hangs happily beside the Bouillon Castle design as a castle pair, or with the Aarhus print as a Danish two-piece where the same brick red returns.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the pattern in the foreground? A clipped hedge maze in the castle garden, drawn from a raised viewpoint so the walls and one sandy path are clearly readable.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
