A Columbia Missouri travel poster looking along the six free-standing stone columns that mark the university quadrangle: fluted shafts on square plinths, plain capitals, stepping back one after another across a mown lawn, with red brick halls, a pedimented portico and a domed cupola behind them and orange autumn trees between the buildings.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration, hard-edged, with the shading on each column reduced to three vertical bands — lit face, mid tone, shadow side — which is what gives the fluting its rhythm. The palette is short and strong: a deep, almost cobalt blue sky, cream and pale grey stone, brick red and maroon on the buildings, several greens in the lawn with dark bands of shadow raked across it, and burnt orange in the trees. The perspective is low, so the columns rise well into the empty upper half. Type at the top reads COLUMBIA with MISSOURI beneath in lighter capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A campus landmark, not a skyline — the six columns on the quad are the image, drawn in receding perspective.
- Blue over cream — a saturated sky against pale stone, with almost nothing in between to soften it.
- Autumn in the detail — orange maples between the brick halls date the scene to the start of term.
- Made for alumni — an easy gift for anyone who walked this quad.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The strong blue sky is the deciding colour. It looks sharpest on white or pale grey walls, and it holds its own on the sage wall in the photographs above, where the lawn greens meet the paint. Avoid busy wallpaper — this print wants space around it. A black frame suits the graphic edges; walnut warms the brick tones.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The composition is simple, so it works small — 12" x 18" in a study or dorm. Over a desk or sofa, 20" x 30" or 24" x 36".
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? COLUMBIA at the top with MISSOURI in smaller capitals below. This is Columbia in Missouri, not Columbia in South Carolina, which is a separate print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
