A Philadelphia City Hall poster framed by the canyon of Broad Street. The Second Empire tower runs straight up the middle of the sheet, clock face lit, mansard roofs and dormers stacked below it and the William Penn statue standing in silhouette at the very top, with tall office blocks pressing in from both sides and a bank of cream thunderheads piling up behind.
About the artwork
Hard-edged flat shapes with dense fine line work in the stonework, drawn in strong one-point perspective so the road, the kerbs and the lamp posts all converge on the tower. The palette is cool with one warm break: slate teal-grey sky, bone and pale limestone on the civic facade, charcoal and terracotta brick on the flanking towers, and a band of amber gold along the horizon behind the building. Rust-red banners hang from the lamp posts down both sides, small cars sit at the kerb, awnings and shopfronts fill the ground floors, and the clouds are built from layered cream and grey lobes. The type reads PHILADELPHIA above PENNSYLVANIA in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Perspective that pulls — the street funnels the eye up the tower and nowhere else.
- Ornament drawn in full — dormers, columns, the clock and the statue on top are all there.
- Storm light — grey cloud over an amber horizon gives it real drama.
- Centre City in one image — the building everything in Philadelphia is measured from.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The slate greys and the amber horizon suit a study or a panelled room more than a bright one. The terracotta wall in the photographs above answers the brick on the right-hand tower, and a deep green or charcoal wall makes the limestone read almost white. On plain white the print looks graphic and architectural. A black frame is the obvious match; walnut warms the brick tones.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is a great deal of carved detail in the tower, so 24" x 36" or larger repays the space. Above a desk, 16" x 24" keeps the clock and statue readable.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed text is PHILADELPHIA with PENNSYLVANIA beneath it, in white capitals. The words City Hall are not printed on the artwork, and no shop or street signage is legible.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
