A Churchill Downs Louisville poster that looks down the home stretch from track level. The twin spires and the long white grandstand catch the afternoon light, a freshly harrowed dirt track sweeps in a wide curve across the whole foreground, and the green infield with its white rail runs away toward the far turn under a high Kentucky sky.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges and broad tonal bands, drawn in the mid-century travel poster tradition. The palette runs clay, ochre and rust across the raked dirt, then cools into pale sky blue, chalk white and slate grey for the grandstand roofs, with one strip of grass green in the infield. Fine parallel strokes cut across the sky as wind-brushed cirrus while cumulus piles up behind the far turn. Look for the ironwork rail posts, the red-and-white striped track markers, the tiered verandas under each spire and the harrow lines raked into the dirt. Type is set in wide white capitals reading LOUISVILLE, with KENTUCKY below it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Track-level viewpoint — the dirt fills the bottom half, so the print reads as a place you stood rather than a postcard skyline.
- The twin spires, drawn properly — both towers, their lanterns and the veranda columns beneath them are rendered as distinct shapes, not a silhouette.
- Warm and cool in balance — ochre track against pale blue sky, an easy pairing for rooms that already lean neutral.
- For the Derby crowd — one for anyone who has walked the paddock in May, or who collects racing history.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The clay and ochre of the track give this one a warm base, so it settles easily on cream, oatmeal or terracotta walls, much like the walnut sideboard setting in the photographs above. Slate roof greys and pale sky blue stop it reading too hot, which lets it sit beside blue-grey linen or denim without clashing. Oak and walnut framing pick up the dirt tones; a black frame sharpens the white grandstand instead. It works well in a den, a bar corner or above a desk.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sideboard or a desk, 18" x 24" holds the wall without crowding it. For a stairwell or a wide living room wall, go to 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" so the harrow lines in the dirt stay legible.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads LOUISVILLE with KENTUCKY underneath. The racetrack itself is not named in the lettering.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
