A Church of St John Kaneo poster from out on the lake: the small Byzantine church perched on the lip of a pale limestone cliff, its brickwork warm against a very large field of deep blue water.
About the artwork
The design leans hard on flat banding. The lake fills the left two thirds as horizontal strokes of navy, cobalt and steel blue, each band slightly different so the surface reads as texture rather than one colour, and the far shore is a run of pale teal ridges across the top. Against that, the church is the only warm object in the frame: red and ochre brick set in courses with paler stone bands, a domed drum with narrow arched windows, a tiled roof in orange-brown and a thin black cross on top, with a low stone terrace in front of it. The cliff below is cut into blocky facets of cream, buff and rose, with deep shadow in the vertical cracks, and a few pale boulders sit just under the surface at its foot. The lower right corner is dense scrub, silvery-green juniper and dry grass drawn clump by clump. Blue, cream, terracotta, nothing else. The title reads Ohrid, with North Macedonia beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Banded water. The lake is built from stripes of blue, which gives the print an almost graphic flatness.
- One warm object. The brick church is the only warm note, so your eye goes straight to it.
- A real cliff edge. The drop is drawn facet by facet rather than smoothed over.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The big flat blue makes this an easy print to place: white, pale grey, chalk blue and soft green walls all take it, and it holds its own in a bathroom or a bedroom where a busier design would not. Light oak keeps it fresh, black frames make the blue read deeper. Because most of the left side is quiet water, it is a good choice for a narrow wall or a stairwell. Beside the Berat print it forms a Balkan pair built on stone and water.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Does the print say the full church name? No. The lettering on the artwork is Ohrid with North Macedonia beneath, the town rather than the church, though the church is the subject of the view.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
