A Bryggen travel poster from the quay: the row of narrow wooden Hanseatic warehouses running away along the waterfront in red, ochre, cream and white, each with its own steep gable, and behind them a green mountain rising steeply enough to fill the entire top half of the frame.
About the artwork
The mountain is the surprise. In most harbour prints the background is sky; here a wooded slope in five values of green and teal takes up more of the picture than the buildings do, with a soft stippled texture in the trees and a haze band where it meets the sky. That mass is what makes the wharf houses read as small and human. They are drawn with real care — board cladding, small-pane windows, hoist doors under the gables — and the colour sequence never repeats side by side. The bottom third is the quay itself: pale plank decking running in perspective, then dark harbour water with a fine ripple. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Norway beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A mountain, not a sky. The green slope behind the wharf is what makes this print unusual.
- Timber gables in sequence. The rhythm of the roofline carries the eye along the quay.
- Red against teal. Complementary colours doing the heavy lifting.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Teal-dominant with warm red accents, which makes it easier to live with than a fully saturated cityscape. It suits white, pale grey and soft green walls and sits well beside pale wood and wool. Natural and black frames both work. It makes a coherent Norway trio with the Lofoten and Geirangerfjord prints — one town, one village, one fjord, all sharing the same cold blue-green.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? From the wooden quay at the head of the harbour, looking along the front of the old wharf houses.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
