A Bonneville Salt Flats illustrated print that stands on the crust and looks west. The bottom half is white salt broken into polygon plates, the middle is a shallow sheet of standing water holding a turquoise reflection, and behind it a rust-brown ridge steps up into blue-grey mountains. Above all of it a wall of cumulus climbs most of the sheet.
About the artwork
The drawing is dense rather than simplified. Every salt polygon is outlined and shaded individually, so the foreground has real texture instead of a flat white field. The clouds are modelled with fine curved line work and soft grey underlighting, building a tower that reads as three-dimensional. Colour runs from deep teal at the top of the sky down through petrol blue to a pale band at the horizon, then the mountains carry slate blue and copper. Small green shrubs and dark rock sit in the bottom corners. Type at the foot of the sheet reads BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS in heavy white caps with a spaced UTAH beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Clouds, not just ground. More than half the sheet is sky, which makes the room feel taller where it hangs.
- The mirror effect. The thin water layer doubles the mountains and gives the flat middle distance something to do.
- Texture close up. The cracked crust holds detail you only see standing next to the print.
- Cool palette that stays warm. Teal and slate carry the piece, with copper in the ridge so it never goes clinical.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Teal and chalk white take very little effort to place. It is calm above a bed on a white or pale blue wall, and it lifts a grey room without adding another colour family. The arched alcove and the pale console in the photographs above both suit it. Keep the frame light, in oak or white, so the salt crust stays the brightest thing in the composition.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The cloud detail is worth scale, so 18" x 24" and up in a living room. In a small bedroom or office, 12" x 18" still reads clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper ships rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS along the bottom edge, with UTAH in spaced letters below.
Is there another Bonneville Salt Flats design in this shop? Yes. The other one is a flat vector treatment of the same place, with simplified colour bands, hard edges, no shading, and the name across the top. This is the painted version, with individually drawn salt cracks, modelled clouds and the title at the bottom.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
