A Blue Ridge Parkway illustrated print that follows an elevated viaduct as it curls around the shoulder of a forested ridge, then opens onto range after range of Appalachian mountains fading from deep spruce green to pale slate blue. Banks of red rhododendron crowd the foreground slope, dark firs break the treeline, and tall summer cumulus stack up over a soft teal sky.
About the artwork
This one is painted rather than plotted. Airbrushed gradients, hand-worked foliage and dozens of individually shaped clouds give the sheet real depth instead of flat blocks of colour. The palette runs warm to cool as your eye travels back: crimson and dusty pink blossom with moss green in the foreground, sage and forest green across the middle slopes, then six or seven receding ridges in graduated slate blue beneath a cream and apricot haze band. The viaduct deck reads as pale concrete with a thin yellow centre line, carried on slim piers above the canopy. Lettering sits in the lower band in white condensed capitals: BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, with NORTH CAROLINA and VIRGINIA below it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Both states named — the parkway runs 469 miles across North Carolina and Virginia, and the print credits both rather than picking one.
- Real depth in the ridges — the graduated blues read as distance from across a room, which is what people actually remember about this drive.
- A season, not just a place — the rhododendron bloom dates the scene to early summer on the high stretches.
- One strong accent — the red blossom is the only hot colour on the sheet, so it anchors a wall without competing with anything else.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sage and slate blues are quiet enough for a bedroom but hold up on a warm white or clay-toned wall, where the cream clouds pick up the wall colour. Natural oak suits it best, as in the sunlit window room in the photographs above. If your room already leans green, the black frame version sharpens the ridgelines instead of softening them.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a queen bed, 24" x 36" holds the wall. For a hallway, stair wall or a gallery grouping, 16" x 24" is the safer choice — the ridge layers still read clearly at that size.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. If you want it ready to hang, choose framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this the same as your other Blue Ridge Parkway print? No. We offer two separate Blue Ridge Parkway designs. The other one is drawn in a flat, simplified vector style with bold shapes and few colours. This is the painted version, with soft gradients, detailed foliage and layered atmospheric ridges. Same road, two very different looks — worth comparing before you choose.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
