A Blackwater Falls West Virginia poster seen from the boulders downstream at the peak of autumn. The falls come over a wide ledge in two amber sheets split by a dark block of rock, the tannin-stained river froths white and gold through the foreground stones, and red maples crowd both banks under a pale misty sky.
About the artwork
Worked like a limited-palette screen print: a small number of inks, flat shapes, and hatching used instead of blending, which gives the water its streaked, drawn look. The colours are all autumn and stone. Amber and ochre in the falls, burnt orange and scarlet and deep crimson in the maples, cream and bone in the foam and the sky, and charcoal, slate and plum grey in the boulders and the layered cliff walls. Grey conifers and bare trunks fade into haze at the top of the gorge. The title is set in white capitals reading BLACKWATER FALLS, with WEST VIRGINIA beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The water is actually amber — the tannin colour from hemlock and spruce is what names the falls, and the print keeps it instead of painting the water blue.
- Peak Allegheny autumn — scarlet and orange maples on both banks, not a single token red tree.
- Screen-print texture — the hatched water and flat inks give it a retro poster feel that photographs of waterfalls never have.
- Warm and dark at once — heavy charcoal boulders anchor the bottom, so the print has real weight on a wall.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Amber, rust and charcoal make this a cold-weather print. It is very strong on the terracotta wall in the photographs above, and equally at home on cream, camel or warm grey. Espresso or walnut framing matches the darker boulders; natural oak pulls the ochre forward. It suits a living room with wood furniture better than a cool, white minimal space.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The foliage and hatched water carry a lot of fine detail, so go 18" x 24" or larger. Above a sofa, 24" x 36" lets the falls sit at eye level.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed. Canvas is available stretched, or in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? BLACKWATER FALLS across the top and WEST VIRGINIA below. The words State Park do not appear on the artwork itself.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
