An illustrated Big Basin Redwoods poster looking up a creek canyon from the forest floor. Two enormous redwood trunks fill the left and right edges, close enough to read the bark fissures, and between them a slender waterfall slips down a mossy rock face. A shallow stream runs over pale boulders in the foreground, ferns and red flowering shrubs crowd the banks, and a stand of second-growth conifers climbs to a small opening of teal sky.
About the artwork
Painted illustration with deep, carved bark texture and layered canopy shading, not flat vector shapes. The colour is mostly green — moss, fern, blue-green conifer, olive undergrowth — offset by cinnamon and warm brown in the trunks, cool grey in the rock, and a pale aqua thread of falling water. Cream cumulus sits in the gap at the top, which is the only bright note and pulls your eye up the canyon exactly the way the real place does. Small scarlet flowers along the creek keep the lower half from going flat. Title in white capitals across the bottom, BIG BASIN REDWOODS above STATE PARK·CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- California's first state park. Big Basin was protected in 1902, decades before most of the national parks people compare it to.
- Scale you can feel. Framing the view between two trunks rather than showing whole trees is what makes the height register on a wall.
- A park that came back. The 2020 CZU fire burned through the basin; the old-growth redwoods survived and resprouted, and the print reads as a nod to that.
- Restful green. Low contrast, no hard skyline — one of the easiest prints in the range to live with in a bedroom.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deep green and cinnamon suit warm white, mushroom and clay walls, and the print is a natural companion to houseplants — see the arched alcove and the fern-filled window corner in the photographs above. Against a sage wall it almost disappears into the room in the best way; against off-white the trunks read as strong vertical lines and it works as a tall accent beside a doorway. Natural oak or espresso frames echo the bark; white flattens it.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The vertical format suits narrow walls. 12" x 18" beside a door, 24" x 36" over a bed or sofa, 30" x 40" where you want the trunk scale to land. The bark texture holds up at every size.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads BIG BASIN REDWOODS on the first line, STATE PARK·CALIFORNIA on the second, in white capitals with a centred dot.
Where is Big Basin? In the Santa Cruz Mountains between Saratoga and the coast, about an hour and a half south of San Francisco. It is a California state park, not a national park, and it is separate from Redwood National Park up on the north coast.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
