A Biarritz travel poster made almost entirely of Atlantic water: long white lines of surf rolling in over dark rock stacks, with a pale grand hotel and a glass-fronted villa standing on the headland at the top left.
About the artwork
Nearly a monochrome. The palette runs from pale sky blue at the horizon through steel and petrol to near-black in the rocks, with white foam as the only bright note and a little cream in the buildings. It is drawn hard-edged, like a screen print: the swell is described in flat interlocking shapes rather than gradients, each wave face its own plane, and the foam is cut out in ragged white ribbons that curve from the bottom-left corner towards the point. Sea takes about four-fifths of the sheet, which gives the whole thing a lot of air. The stacks are simplified to angular wedges with green scrub on top. On the headland sits a pale hotel with a mansard roof and rows of tall windows, a villa with a glazed veranda on the rock below it, and a low sea wall running out of the frame. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Blue on blue. One colour family in seven values, so it hangs like a graphic rather than a postcard.
- Hard-edged surf. Every wave cut as a flat shape, with no soft blending anywhere in the water.
- A grand hotel on the rock. The one warm element, and it gives the ocean its scale.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool, graphic and a little severe, which makes it a good home-office or study print, and a strong one over a bed. Deep navy, slate and inky blue-green walls take it without a fight; plain white makes the foam jump. Pair it with steel, glass and dark leather rather than rattan. A white frame lifts the foam, a black frame pushes it further towards poster art. It runs well with the Seven Sisters or Dune of Pilat prints.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this a surf print? The wave lines are the subject, but the view is taken from the rocks below the headland rather than the beach, so it reads as coastline first and surf second.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
