A Beacon Hill Boston print looking down a narrow cobblestone lane after dark, with cast-iron gas lamps burning along both kerbs, brick row houses pressing in on either side, warm light in the upper windows, and the round stones of the roadway catching the glow all the way to the far end.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges, carrying a lot of drawn detail: every cobble is picked out individually, and the brickwork is ruled course by course. The colour is built on a night palette — deep maroon and oxblood brick, near-black shutters and ironwork, a petrol blue and slate sky with thin grey cloud — lit by two temperatures at once: amber and burnt orange from the lamps and windows, and a cold pewter blue washing along the left kerb and the wet stones. Details to look for: the finial on the nearest lamp and the flame inside its glass, a fire escape overhead, a scrolled iron gate on the left, granite kerbstones, and a receding line of five more lamps. The printed type reads BOSTON above MASSACHUSETTS in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A night piece — most travel prints are noon; this one is lamplight and blue hour.
- Warm and cool in one frame — amber gaslight against pewter-blue stone.
- Deep perspective — the lane pulls the eye a long way back, which makes a small wall feel bigger.
- Dark enough to anchor — holds its own beside black frames and dark furniture.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Dark prints need either contrast or company. On a white or pale plaster wall the black frame edge in the photographs above frames it cleanly; on a deep green, navy or charcoal wall it disappears into the room in a good way and the lamps do all the work. Walnut, aged brass and leather sit naturally with the amber notes. It suits a bedroom, a snug or a hallway that is already dim rather than a bright south-facing room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The cobbles are the detail worth paying for, so 18" x 27" or larger. Above a bed, 24" x 36" and up.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Matte canvas comes stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads BOSTON with MASSACHUSETTS beneath it. Beacon Hill is not written anywhere on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
