A Baton Rouge Louisiana poster built around the Gothic Revival castle that sits on the bluff over the Mississippi. Turrets, crenellations and tall pointed windows rise out of a bank of live oaks, mown lawn sweeps down the hill in the foreground, and behind the roofline the river runs across the full width of the frame as a broad silt-coloured band under a summer sky.
About the artwork
Drawn with clean edges and controlled flat shading, close enough for the stained-glass tracery, chimney stacks and the slate cone on the corner turret to stay readable. The palette pairs warm architecture with cool water: cream and pale rose limestone walls, charcoal slate roofs, stained glass in indigo and burgundy, deep forest and olive greens in the trees, two tones of lawn green in the mown stripes, and a wide river of dusty mauve, tan and grey-blue. A single white cumulus cloud sits left of the title. The text reads BATON ROUGE in white capitals with LOUISIANA below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- An unusual state capitol — a genuine castle silhouette, which is what makes Baton Rouge instantly recognisable rather than another skyline.
- The river gets its real colour — silt mauve and tan, not the postcard blue most prints default to.
- Deep green foreground — oaks, a palm frond and striped lawn give the print more life than a straight building study.
- Architectural detail — arched windows, balustrades and the exterior stair all survive at print size.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green is the dominant colour here, so the print lands naturally on the sage green wall shown in the photographs above and works just as well on cream or warm white. Against the terracotta room it plays off the rose tones in the stonework. Walnut or espresso framing suits the architecture; a study or home office wall is a good home for it.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is a lot of window and roof detail. 18" x 24" is the smallest size that keeps it crisp, and 24" x 36" is better over a console or desk.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed. Canvas is available stretched, or in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What building is shown? The castellated Gothic Revival Old State Capitol on the bluff above the Mississippi River, seen from the lawn side with the river behind it.
What does the poster say? BATON ROUGE across the top with LOUISIANA beneath. The building is not labelled on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
