An alfama lisbon poster looking down a steep cobbled street: two yellow trams climbing between tiled house fronts, overhead wires crossing the sky in loose diagonals, and the terracotta roofs of the old quarter dropping away behind them to the water.
About the artwork
The street runs from the bottom edge straight into the middle of the frame, which sets up the whole picture — everything narrows and rises towards that point. The paving is drawn stone by stone in cream and cool grey, with two bright rails cutting through it. The near tram is the one that carries detail: a rounded body in cadmium yellow, panelled windows with their frames, a route board, a single headlamp, and a second tram further up reduced to a yellow block. On the right, a facade of blue and white tiles with wrought-iron balconies, potted geraniums and a scrolled lamp bracket. On the left, ochre and cream walls sitting in shadow under a canvas awning. Beyond the rooftops the pantiles go on in orange and rust, broken by two church towers, then a flat blue estuary and cumulus. Title in wide-tracked uppercase reading LISBON, with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Yellow with somewhere to go. The trams are the only strong yellow, so they hold the centre of the frame.
- Tilework and ironwork. Blue azulejo panels and balcony rails drawn close enough to read.
- Street and skyline together. A narrow lane in front, half the old quarter and the river behind.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm and sunlit, which makes it a good kitchen, breakfast-room or stairwell print. It sits happily on white, cream and pale blue walls, and beside light wood, cane and glazed ceramic. Natural oak frames follow the paving and the ochre walls; a black frame pushes the yellow forward. It pairs naturally with the Porto print for a Portuguese pair, or with Seville if you want the whole Iberian coast on one wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this a specific quarter? Yes — this design stays inside the old Alfama streets and their rooftops rather than covering the whole capital. A separate Lisbon print in the store handles the wider city view.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
