An Akureyri travel poster looking up the fjord: the church with its twin stepped towers standing above the low white town on the right bank, a green-brown mountainside behind it, and half the sheet given over to dark teal water carrying a long field of gold sun glitter.
About the artwork
The composition is a diagonal. The shoreline runs from the middle of the right edge down and away to a point near the centre, and everything else hangs off that line. The church is small but unmistakable, two pale concrete towers with stepped shoulders and a low nave, set on a shelf above the roofs; below it the town is a tight run of white and grey blocks with a few red roofs, and a low breakwater reaching into the water. Behind rises a steep flank in olive and moss with scree channels drawn as fine vertical strokes, and across the fjord a long ridge of blue mountain, its crest catching warm gold from a low sun. The water below is worked in horizontal strokes of teal and slate, then breaks into a dense scatter of gold and white sparkle down the right side. Cold blues everywhere, warm light only at the ridge line and on the water. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Iceland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The sun glitter. A wide band of gold across dark water, which keeps a very cool print from feeling cold.
- A real skyline, small. The twin towers read instantly without dominating the view.
- Teal, slate and moss. A narrow palette that slots into almost any restrained room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool and quiet, so it suits bedrooms, bathrooms and reading corners more than a busy living room. Try it on white, pale grey, chalk blue or soft greige walls, next to pale ash, birch or painted furniture and wool textiles. A light oak frame keeps the Nordic feel; black frames sharpen the water and suit a darker room. It pairs naturally with the Tromsø and Faroe Islands prints for a northern set that stays in the same blue register.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Which direction is the view? From out on the water looking back at the town, with the fjord opening away to the left and the far ridge closing the horizon.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
