An Aix en Provence poster from under the plane trees of the Cours Mirabeau: two huge mottled trunks framing the view, the canopy closing overhead, dappled light thrown all over the paving, and a cafe terrace of rust-orange chairs running away down the right-hand side.
About the artwork
The print is built like a corridor, and the trees are as much the subject as the street. Bark is drawn in flaking patches of olive, cream and grey-green, the nearest trunk filling the left edge from top to bottom, with a black lamp standard beside it. Overhead the leaves are layered in four or five greens with hard blue sky burning through the gaps. The paving is where the drawing shows off — flat stone slabs carrying hundreds of hard-edged sun patches, cool blue-grey in shadow and pale gold in the light, so the ground reads as bright and busy without a single soft edge. On the right, honey-coloured townhouses climb four storeys with wrought-iron balconies and shutters in faded blue and grey. Below them run white parasols, round tables and stacked chairs in rust and terracotta, a mossy green fountain, and a few seated figures. More walk in the middle distance. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Dappled light, drawn not blurred. Every sun patch on the paving has a hard edge, which is what makes it sing.
- Plane bark up close. The nearest trunk is detailed enough to read as a texture study on its own.
- Green, honey and rust. A street scene with real colour in it rather than a postcard blue.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green-dominant and full of movement, so it earns a large size and some clear wall around it — above a sofa or a long sideboard rather than in a narrow corridor. Olive, deep green and warm white walls suit it, next to walnut, cane and terracotta. A walnut frame agrees with the trunks; a black frame makes the sunlit paving snap. Hang it with the Marseille and Monte-Carlo prints as a group of southern city scenes.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Are there people in the print? A few, and they are small: seated at the cafe tables on the right and walking in the middle distance. The trees, the light and the street are the subject.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
