A Wat Mahathat Ayutthaya poster standing among the brick ruins of the old Siamese capital. A great fig tree fills the right of the frame, its pale braided roots gripping a weathered stone Buddha head, while eroded red prangs rise from dry grass behind.
About the artwork
This is the most textural design of the Thai group, with heavy line work carving every root, every leaf cluster and every course of crumbling brick. The palette is narrow and warm: rust and burnt sienna for the ruins, bone for the roots, dusty olive and straw for the ground, all against a saturated teal sky. Low broken foundations lead back to two tall prangs, pitted where the render has fallen away. Lettering reads AYUTTHAYA above THAILAND.
Why you'll love it
- Rust and bone against a deep teal sky give far more contrast than a pastel poster.
- The tree and roots make it a botanical piece as well as a heritage one.
- Dense line work shows detail in the larger sizes that vanishes at 8 x 12 inches.
- A good choice for anyone drawn to ruins and old stone.
Where it works at home
Warm brick tones make this the pick for a room with terracotta, leather or exposed wood, and it settles against a clay, mustard or deep green wall. Hang it near a reading chair, since the detail invites you to stand close. Walnut follows the brick; black pulls out the teal sky.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
What is the head in the tree roots? It is a weathered stone Buddha head slowly enclosed by the roots of a fig tree at ground level, one of the best known sights among the Ayutthaya ruins. In the artwork it sits low in the trunk on the right, about a third of the way up.
