A floating black ballet flats poster: a high-contrast black and white studio still life of satin flats suspended on ribbons above a rippling checkerboard floor.
About the artwork
The two shoes hang in the middle of the sheet, one slightly above the other, as if lifted by an invisible hand. Long satin ribbons twist and loop above them and trail off toward the top edge. Small bows sit on each toe, catching a soft sheen. At the bottom, the checkered floor bends and ripples like fabric, which gives the scene a dreamlike, surreal edge. The plain white space between ribbons and floor keeps the composition airy.
Why you'll love it
- A surreal twist on fashion. The floating shoes and bending floor give a familiar object a playful mood.
- Pure graphic contrast. Only black and white, so it pairs with any color you already have.
- Perfect for a dancer's room. Ballet flats and ribbons suit a bedroom, studio or dressing nook.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it above a bedroom bench, in a reading corner, or in a hallway near the closet. A black frame repeats the checkerboard, and a white frame lets the ribbons breathe. Group it with the cherries in a silver bowl and the rotary phone designs, which share the same bow-and-checkerboard mood.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is the floor really curved? Yes, the checkerboard bends and ripples as part of the image, like cloth rather than tile.
Does it have any wording? No, the design has no text.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
