A mercy kanji print for the room where you start and end the day. The characters 慈愛 are set large in black on cream, with JIAI and mercy written underneath and a red seal to finish the sheet. It is a reminder to be kind, including to yourself, in two strong characters.
About the artwork
The palette is three colors: black for the characters, red for the seals, and a cream ground behind both. 慈愛 dominates the sheet in large, solid strokes. Under it, JIAI gives the Japanese reading in Latin letters and mercy gives the English word. A red seal and a small round seal complete the composition. There is no other ornament, so the characters carry the whole picture on their own. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- A softer word than most. Mercy is a gentler choice than bold motivational words, which suits a bedroom.
- Reading and meaning included. JIAI and mercy are printed below the characters, so the piece explains itself.
- One small red note. The red seal is the only color, which keeps the print easy to place in a neutral room.
- Works as a quiet office piece too. On a desk wall it reads as a steady reminder rather than a slogan.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Above a bed in a bedroom with warm white or oatmeal walls, 24" x 36" in a natural wood floating frame keeps it gentle. A light oak nightstand and a paper lamp fit its tone. In an office, a 16" x 24" print beside a bookshelf or monitor works better than one centered over the desk. Pair it with a small sumi-e ink sketch of a single branch to keep the black-and-cream palette going.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does JIAI mean? The characters 慈愛 are read jiai, and the print gives the English word mercy right beneath them.
Which frame suits a calm bedroom? A natural or white wood floating frame keeps the look soft. Choose black if you want the characters to look sharper.
Can I hang it in a home office? Yes. At 16" x 24" it sits well beside a monitor or bookshelf, and the plain cream ground will not distract while you work.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
