Wood violets, drawn the way a stamp engraver would. This Wisconsin state flower print sets five-petal faces on long naked stalks inside a perforated 1¢ frame, with The Badger State struck along the bottom edge.
About the artwork
Violet on lavender, one ink throughout. Three violets face the viewer across the middle of the stamp, each drawn large for its scale, with two petals lifted at the top and three spread beneath, and each bloom rides its own slender stalk so nothing overlaps. A fern ornament fills the lower-left corner and the 1¢ denomination sits in a circle opposite. The perforated edge is drawn as real die-cut scallops on a plain cream sheet, so the stamp sits on the page as an object. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The violet's lopsided face. Two petals up and three down is what makes a violet look like a violet, and the engraving keeps that uneven arrangement instead of tidying it into a symmetrical flower.
- One family of colour. Violet line on a lavender ground holds the whole plate inside a single hue, so it settles into a room that already has plenty going on.
- Built as a set of fifty. Every state shares the same frame, denomination and typography, so any combination lines up.
- A gift for someone from Wisconsin. Home state on the wall, without souvenir kitsch.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Violet is a cool ink with a soft edge, so it does its best work in small, close-up spots rather than across a big open wall: above a desk, over a changing table, in the corner where you actually sit and read. Birch, ash and white-lacquered furniture keep it fresh, and unlike most of the cool plates this one takes a gold frame well — the warm metal stops the lavender from going grey under lamplight. A3 or 12" x 16" is the right scale for those spots. Four states hung in a tight two-by-two square, with this one in the group, gives a bookcase wall something to look at without swallowing it.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console, desk or shelf, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Can I collect more than one state? Yes. All fifty share one format and one denomination, so any combination hangs as a matched set.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
