A Wichita Mountains Oklahoma poster that puts a bison herd on open mixed-grass prairie in front of the range's granite. A big bull stands broadside in the middle distance, head down in waist-high grass, with eight or nine more animals scattered back toward the treeline. Behind them a rounded granite dome rises out of a field of boulders, with lower ridges running off to the right under a clear, pale sky.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration with hard-edged shapes and long, drawn grass strokes that give the foreground real movement. The colour is almost entirely warm: amber, ochre and honey across the grassland, deepening to burnt gold in shadow, against cool grey-blue granite with lavender shading in the crevices. Small rust-red patches of scrub break up the left edge and mid-ground, the bison are drawn in dark umber and chocolate, and the sky is a soft duck-egg blue that fades pale at the horizon. Title type sits in the sky in white capitals, WICHITA MOUNTAINS above OKLAHOMA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A living herd, not a lone silhouette — one bull in front and the rest of the herd fading back gives the plain real depth.
- Granite in the middle of the plains — the boulder domes are what make this corner of Oklahoma look like nowhere else in the state.
- Gold that warms a wall — the amber grassland carries a room on its own without needing extra colour.
- For refuge visitors — anyone who has driven the loop road at dawn and had to wait for bison to cross it.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Amber and ochre are made for warm walls, and the terracotta room with the walnut sideboard in the photographs above shows exactly how well this sits on clay and rust tones. On cream or oatmeal walls the gold grass glows and a walnut frame keeps it grounded. It also works against dark green, where the cool granite in the print picks up the wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The far herd is small, so go 24" x 36" over a sofa or bed if you want every animal to read. At 16" x 24" the front bull and the granite dome still carry the print.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
Is this the same as Wichita, Kansas? No. The Wichita Mountains are a granite range in southwest Oklahoma, near Lawton, known for free-roaming bison and longhorn. Wichita is a city in south-central Kansas, several hours north, and shares only the name.
What does the poster say? WICHITA MOUNTAINS in large white capitals with OKLAHOMA set smaller beneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
