A val dorcia poster of the Tuscan hills in late spring: a white gravel road winding up through green wheat, a ring of dark cypresses around a farmhouse with a terracotta roof, and blue mountains far off on the horizon.
About the artwork
Almost all green, which is the surprise, because this valley is usually drawn in August gold. The hills are built from long overlapping bands, each field a slightly different green: blue-green in the shadowed folds, acid yellow-green where the light crosses, olive on the far slopes. Grass and young wheat are drawn as thousands of short directional strokes leaning the same way, so the whole hillside looks combed by wind. A white gravel road makes an S from the bottom-left corner into the middle distance and is the only hard line in the picture. At the top of it sits a farmhouse with pantiles and a pale wall, ringed by cypresses drawn as dark spindles; two more stand alone beside the road, small enough to give you the scale. The title reads Tuscany in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Green, not gold. Late spring rather than the usual August stubble, which is much easier to live with.
- The road holds it together. One white curve from the bottom corner up to the farmhouse.
- Combed grass. Close up, the slopes are thousands of short strokes all leaning one way.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Restful and green enough to work as the calm print in a busy room, so it earns a living room, a dining wall or a stairwell. Ecru, warm white and limewashed clay walls suit it, and it sits happily with oak, linen, rush and terracotta pots. A limed oak or pale ash frame keeps it fresh; black turns it graphic. Hang it beside the Orvieto print for a Tuscany and Umbria pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Does the print say Val d'Orcia on it? No. The lettering on the artwork reads Tuscany with Italy beneath. The valley is the subject of the scene, but its name is not printed on the sheet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
