A US Capitol building poster drawn from low on the west lawn, looking up the slope at the cast-iron dome. The Statue of Freedom stands on the lantern at the very top, the tholos colonnade rings the drum, and the terrace steps and balustrades descend to the left. The grass tilts across the bottom third of the frame, which is what makes the building feel as tall as it does.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with crisp edges and no linework, shaded in stepped bands rather than gradients on the stone. The palette is tight: ivory and warm white on the sunlit faces, pale blue-grey and lavender-grey in the shadowed columns and coffered dome ribs, a graduated sky that runs from deep azure at the top edge to a lighter cerulean near the horizon, and three greens in the lawn with darker strokes for mown texture. Corinthian capitals, arched windows and the ribbed dome are all drawn as repeated geometry. Type sits at the top in white sans-serif capitals: U.S. CAPITOL, with WASHINGTON, D.C. smaller beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Built from the ground up — the low viewpoint and tilted lawn give the dome real height instead of a flat postcard elevation.
- The dome in detail — ribs, columns, windows and the Statue of Freedom are all resolved, not simplified into a silhouette.
- Quiet enough for a workspace — three colours doing everything, no crowds and no clutter.
- A civics print, not a souvenir — the architecture is the subject, with no flags, slogans or party colours anywhere in it.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Ivory stone against deep blue is a cool, formal pairing, so it belongs in a study, a library corner or a hallway rather than a soft nursery. It reads cleanly on the plain white wall in the photographs above and holds its own against a deeper navy or forest green. Black framing sharpens the sky; a natural oak frame warms the ivory and keeps the green lawn from feeling isolated.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a desk or a set of shelves, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" suits. On a stairwell or a long hallway wall, 24" x 36" lets the dome detail show.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed text reads U.S. CAPITOL with WASHINGTON, D.C. beneath it. There is no other lettering in the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
