A Trona Pinnacles California poster of the tufa spires standing on the floor of Searles Lake basin. Two tall pinnacles dominate the frame, their surfaces pitted and cratered where the mineral crust built up underwater, with a ridge of smaller cones running down the slope in front of them. Beyond, blue desert ranges fade into haze, and the foreground is a flat orange-red pan scattered with low creosote bushes.
About the artwork
The drawing is unusually detailed: every spire is built from fine contour lines that follow the rock's swelling shape, so the tufa reads as porous rather than smooth. The palette is dominated by apricot, sand and pale bone in the pinnacles, with warm grey shadow on their shaded sides. Below them the dry lake bed runs from ochre through a hard band of rust orange, broken by sage-green scrub. Behind, slate blue and violet ranges sit under towering cream cumulus and a clear teal-blue sky. The lower left carries the title in heavy condensed capitals, TRONA PINNACLES, with CALIFORNIA spaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Rock formations you cannot mistake — more than 500 tufa spires stand on this dry lake bed, and the print draws their pitted surface properly.
- Desert colour without dullness — apricot and rust against blue ranges and green scrub keeps the palette lively.
- A quiet corner of California — no coastline, no redwoods, no city; a Mojave landscape that reads differently from the rest of the state.
- Detail rewards a close look — the contour work in the spires holds up at large sizes.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The apricot and rust range sits naturally against terracotta, warm white and putty walls, and it holds up well next to leather, jute and unfinished wood. A black frame gives the pale spires more contrast in a bright room; the natural oak used in the photographs above blends into the warm end of the palette. It pairs well with other desert prints without competing, since its greens and blues are muted.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The fine contour detail in the spires is worth space, so 18" x 24" upward is the better choice for a feature wall. 12" x 18" works in a hallway or as part of a desert grouping.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed text reads TRONA PINNACLES with CALIFORNIA below, set into the lower left of the artwork over the desert floor.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
