A Thun travel poster standing in the river: white water pouring through the weir in the foreground, timber houses and a covered wooden sluice along the banks, the white church with its red spire above them, and grey Alps closing the back of the view.
About the artwork
The design is stacked in four clear layers and reads from the bottom up. The river fills the lower half, turquoise-green broken by hundreds of white crests, the current drawn as long diagonal streaks with standing waves below the weir and dark rocks anchoring both bottom corners. On the banks sit the working timber structures: a covered wooden sluice house on posts to the left, a small round turret with a pointed red-brown roof beside it, then chalets and gabled buildings with deep terracotta tiled roofs, a stone quay and a low bridge crossing at the right. Above them the church stands white and plain, its tall square clock tower carrying a steep red spire, flanked by a smaller turret and dark conifers. Behind everything the mountains rise in cool grey planes with snow held in the gullies, softened by haze. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Switzerland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Moving water. The weir and the rapids take up half the sheet, drawn crest by crest.
- Turquoise against terracotta. A cold river, warm roofs and grey rock, with nothing extra.
- Old timber detail. The covered sluice house, the balconies and the posts are drawn plank by plank.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool and alpine, with just enough warmth in the roof tiles to keep it friendly. It suits white, stone grey and soft green walls, and sits well with pine, wool and blackened metal. Natural oak frames pick up the timber, while a black frame makes the white church and the rapids snap. It hangs naturally beside the Appenzell, Landwasser Viaduct or Grossglockner prints if you are building an alpine wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the white water at the bottom? The weir on the river below the old town, drawn from bank level so the rapids run right up to the edge of the sheet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
