A Teatro Massimo Palermo poster seen across the piazza: the honey-stone opera house with its columned portico and dome, bronze lions flanking the stairs, and tall date palms cutting straight through the foreground.
About the artwork
Built around the palms. Two big date palms stand right at the front, trunks running the full height of the sheet and fronds spreading into the top corners, so you look at the building through them rather than at it. The theatre is drawn straight on in warm honey and sand: a wide flight of steps, six Corinthian columns under a plain pediment, a terracotta roof, and the ribbed dome lifting behind the portico on the left. A bronze lion sits on a pedestal at each side of the stairs, one of them carrying a rider. Paving fills the bottom third in cream and grey slabs with palm shadows laid across it, and small figures walk through at a scale that tells you how large the building is. To the right the city continues in pale blocks and a hazy blue hill closes the view. The sky is one strong flat blue. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Framed by palm trunks. The foreground trees turn a straight-on building shot into something with depth.
- Honey stone against hard blue. Warm ochre and deep sky, the pairing that carries Sicilian light.
- Lions on the steps. Two bronzes at the stair, small details that reward a closer look.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sunny and architectural at once, which makes it a good entryway or living room print, and a natural fit above a sideboard. Cream, sand and pale terracotta walls suit the stone, and a warm white keeps the sky reading blue. Travertine, olive foliage, brass and rattan sit well beside it. A natural oak frame picks up the honey tones, a gold frame plays to the opera house, and black holds the palms in place. It pairs easily with other Italian prints in the range.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Which building is this? Palermo's opera house, seen from the piazza in front of it. The printed title on the artwork reads Palermo, with Italy beneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
