A Stein am Rhein poster standing in the old town square: tall houses with painted facades and steep red roofs closing in on three sides, a cobbled expanse underfoot, and a castle on the wooded hill behind the rooftops.
About the artwork
What makes this one different is the wall painting. Whole facades are covered edge to edge with figures, scrollwork and borders, drawn as dense red and blue-grey pattern rather than picked out detail, so from a distance the buildings read as textiles and up close they resolve into ornament. Around them the roofline goes wild: pointed turrets with pennants, stepped gables, a corbelled oriel window, half-timbering in white and red on the central house, and a shop sign in wrought iron hanging over the square. The colour is deliberately narrow — brick red and coral against teal shadow, with cream and a single blue-green facade to break it — which gives the print the look of an old screen print. Small figures cross the cobbles in twos and threes, red and white parasols stand open outside the cafes, and the hilltop keep sits pale in the haze. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Switzerland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Painted walls, not plain ones. The frescoed facades are the whole point, and they are drawn as pattern.
- A busy roofline. Turrets, gables and an oriel give the top half real silhouette.
- Red against teal. A tight two-colour scheme that reads as vintage rather than nostalgic.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm and busy, so it likes a plain wall and a bit of distance — a dining room, a kitchen wall or a landing. Cream, oatmeal and soft teal paint all hold it well, and it sits happily with dark wood, ceramic and woven baskets. Espresso or black frames anchor all that red; natural oak lightens it. It makes a good Swiss pair with the Bern clock tower print, which shares the same teal and rust palette.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is on the hill behind? A castle above the town, drawn small and hazy on the wooded ridge so it stays in the background.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
