A Split Rock Lighthouse poster looking along the North Shore from below the cliff. The pale yellow brick tower and its keeper's house sit right on the lip of a sheer diabase headland, black lantern room against the sky. Below them the rock face drops in fractured columns to Lake Superior, where white surf breaks along a shelf of dark shoreline rock in the foreground.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration in hard-edged shapes, cut almost entirely from a blue palette — four blues in the water alone, from a deep navy offshore through mid cobalt to a pale wash at the horizon, plus a lighter blue sky with thin horizontal bands. The cliff is grey and blue-grey with warm buff highlights where the sun catches the columns. Against all that cold colour the lighthouse is the one warm object in the picture: cream and butter yellow brick with a black cap. Conifers run down the left edge in near-black green. Surf is drawn as flat white lace over the rock. Typography is a white sans-serif reading SPLIT ROCK LIGHTHOUSE with MINNESOTA below in smaller letterspaced caps. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The cliff is the subject too — drawn from water level so you see the full height the lighthouse stands on, which is what makes this station famous.
- One warm note in a cold picture — the yellow brick reads instantly against the blues and greys.
- A blue print that behaves like a neutral — easy to live with in a bedroom or a study.
- North Shore specific — for people who drive Highway 61 in October rather than generic lighthouse collectors.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Blue this deep needs a light wall behind it. White, chalk and the beige console wall in the photographs above all let the navy read as depth rather than as a dark block. The sage green room shown here also works, since the conifer greens bridge the two. Warm wood framing — oak or walnut — keeps it from going cold; a black frame doubles down on the graphic look.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 16" x 24" suits a hallway or a pair with another North Shore print. Over a bed or a sofa, go to 24" x 36" so the cliff keeps its scale.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads SPLIT ROCK LIGHTHOUSE with MINNESOTA beneath it. Two Harbors is not printed on the artwork, although it is the nearest town to the station.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
