A Sirmione travel poster looking in from the harbour mouth: two low stone breakwaters framing a channel of clear green water, the swallow-tailed battlements of the lake castle straight ahead, and hazy alpine ridges beyond.
About the artwork
Two-thirds of the sheet is water, and that is why it works. The lake is drawn as a broken mosaic of flat patches — jade, aquamarine, sage and pale yellow-green — with the pebbled bottom showing right through and loose white ripple lines running across the surface. It reads as fresh water rather than sea: no surf, no salt haze, just a still plane with light moving on it. Two rubble breakwaters come in from the bottom corners, pale limestone blocks drawn individually with grass in the joints, funnelling the eye up the channel. At the end sits the castle: sand-coloured walls with forked swallowtail merlons, a tall keep, arched gateways at water level and small boats tied at the foot. On the right, terracotta roofs and green shutters; behind, blue-grey mountains fading in layers. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A lake, not the sea. Alpine ridges on the horizon and a clear pebbled bottom instead of surf and sand.
- Water you can see through. The stones on the lakebed are actually drawn, not implied by colour.
- Swallowtail battlements. The forked merlons along the walls are the castle's signature shape.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool, clear and quiet, which makes it an unusually good bathroom print, and it also settles a landing or a calm bedroom. Stone grey, soft mint and pale greige walls hold the greens; avoid a strong warm wall, which fights the water. Travertine, brushed nickel, glass and pale linen suit it. A slim birch or brushed pewter frame stays cool with it, while black adds weight if the wall is very pale. Good beside another lakeside castle print.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this the sea? No, it is Lake Garda. The ridges on the horizon are the mountains at the head of the lake, and the shallows are clear enough to show the stones on the bottom, which is what tells you it is fresh water.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
