A Shoshone Falls illustrated print looking down the Snake River Canyon at the full 900-foot-wide horseshoe. Water splits into several white curtains across stepped basalt ledges, pools into green shallows below, and the canyon opens out behind to flat-topped rimrock in rust and grey. Sagebrush and rabbitbrush hold the foreground on both banks.
About the artwork
Painted, not flat-vector. The basalt is built up in columnar facets with cool blue shadow poured into every crack, the spray at the base is soft and diffuse, and the canyon rim carries a deliberate rust-orange stripe of scrub above the dark cliff. The palette moves from that burnt orange through olive and sage to slate blue in the water, under towering cream cumulus on a strong mid-blue sky. Foreground brush is stippled leaf by leaf. The title sits along the bottom edge in white: SHOSHONE FALLS with IDAHO letterspaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Width, not just height. The falls are drawn as a broad horseshoe crossing the whole frame, which is what makes Shoshone unusual.
- High desert colour. Rust rim, olive brush and slate water give a warm palette you rarely get from a waterfall print.
- Layered distance. Three ranks of mesa recede behind the falls, so the canyon reads as genuinely wide.
- Detail that holds up close. Individual basalt columns and sagebrush clumps stay readable at larger sizes.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rust and olive in this one sit naturally with clay, camel and warm cream walls, and it is one of the few waterfall prints that will not fight a leather chair. Natural oak or espresso framing picks up the canyon rock, as in the teak sideboard photograph above. On a cool grey wall the orange rim becomes the accent and does the whole job on its own.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The scene is horizontal inside a vertical frame, so mid sizes work hard. 18" x 24" suits a study or hallway; 24" x 36" keeps the far rimrock and the separate strands of water distinct.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this your only Shoshone Falls design? No. There are two, drawn in different styles. The other is a flat vector version built from simple blocks of colour with the place name across the top of the image. This is the painted one: brushwork in the spray, columnar texture in the basalt, deeper shadow, and the lettering set along the bottom.
What does the print say? SHOSHONE FALLS in bold capitals at the base, with IDAHO spaced out below it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
