A Sarlat travel poster looking down into the market square from an upper window: honey limestone houses under blue-grey conical roofs, canvas stalls filling the paving, and shoppers moving between them.
About the artwork
An elevated, almost map-like view, and the height is the point — you look down onto the stall canopies and the tops of people's hats. Stone is the subject: golden limestone in three or four warm values with the block joints drawn, mullioned windows, carved surrounds and iron lanterns picked out. Above the roofline stand four square towers and a cluster of pepperpot turrets roofed in blue-grey slate laid in visible scales, which sets up the only real colour argument in the picture, honey against slate. The market runs down the middle: cream and grey-blue parasols, striped awnings, crates of produce, and dozens of small figures in denim, white and red, none of them fussy, all of them reading as people. Paving is drawn stone by stone in warm sand. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Honey stone against slate blue. Two colours doing nearly all of the work.
- A square full of people. Unusual in a travel print, and it makes the town feel lived in.
- Towers and pepperpot turrets. The skyline is the reason the town is drawn from above.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm, busy and sociable, so it belongs in a dining room or a kitchen where people sit. Mustard, ochre and warm clay walls run with the limestone; a plain warm white keeps it calmer. It suits an oak refectory table, rush seating and stoneware. A black frame stops the honey stone going syrupy, while natural wood leans into it. Good beside the Dinan print or another French hill-town print.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What does the lettering say? The town's full name, Sarlat-la-Canéda, set across the top in one wide line with the country beneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
