A Santa Monica Pier poster seen from the wet sand at sunset. The pier runs across the upper third on a forest of dark timber piles, carrying the blue arcade building, a line of lamp posts and the Ferris wheel with its lit gondolas. Below, the tide has left a mirror of wet beach that catches the whole sky, and a long lace of white foam curves in from the bottom corner.
About the artwork
Dense screenprint-style illustration, built from stacked flat colours with hatched edges rather than smooth blends, so the foam and the wet sand break into fine strokes. The palette moves from deep teal at the top of the sky through magenta and rose cloud bands to gold and amber at the horizon, then repeats upside down in the reflection: coral, tangerine and pink over slate blue sand. The pier structure is nearly silhouette, with teal blue on the arcade roof, warm amber points along the wheel, and a small red-lit sign at the pier entrance that is too small to read on the print. The type reads LOS ANGELES with CALIFORNIA below in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Twice the sunset — the sky is repeated in the wet sand, which is why the print carries so much colour for its size.
- The wheel is the landmark — the circular frame against the horizon fixes the place instantly.
- Warm and cool at once — tangerine reflections against slate and teal, so it works with both warm and cool furniture.
- Beach-level view — you are standing on the sand looking up at the pier, not shooting it from the bluff.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sunset oranges glow hardest against a cool backdrop, so pale grey, greige or a soft blue wall suits it better than cream. Rust and terracotta textiles pick up the reflection colours directly. It is a strong living room piece over a sofa, and it also works in a bedroom where the low light of the print matches lamplight. In the sage room in the photographs above, the black frame holds the dark pier silhouette; an espresso frame follows the timber piles.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The pier detail and the foam texture come alive at 24" x 36" and above. At 12" x 18" it still reads clearly as pier and sunset, which makes that size a good choice inside a gallery wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed type is LOS ANGELES with CALIFORNIA underneath. The pier's own sign appears in the artwork but is rendered too small to be legible, and the words Santa Monica Pier are not printed anywhere on the design.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
