A Salem, Oregon travel poster looking across the capitol lawn in full spring, with flowering trees in deep pink at both edges and scattered across the grass, and the white marble Capitol rising behind them under its stepped drum and a gilded pioneer figure holding an axe.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges, built on one clean colour opposition: hot magenta blossom against a flat cerulean sky, with white marble sitting between the two. The lawn is drawn in three bands of green — acid lime in the sun, mid grass green, olive in the tree shadows — which is what gives the ground its sense of low afternoon light. Details to look for: the vertical fluting on the drum, the narrow gold ring below the lantern, the recessed bronze-green window bays, the low wings with their flat parapets, the pale curving path through the lawn, and a bare tree on the left still catching up with spring. The printed type reads SALEM in wide white capitals above OREGON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The gold figure on top — the pioneer with his axe is a genuinely unusual thing to find on a state capitol, and he is the brightest point in the print.
- Blossom does the framing — the flowering branches close both upper corners, so the building sits inside a natural window.
- An Art Deco capitol, not a classical one — the flat drum, fluted stone and squared wings look nothing like the usual domed statehouse.
- Pink and green with real punch — the most colourful print in this series, and the easiest one to build a spring-toned room around.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — stretched canvas in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The magenta is strong, so pair it with quiet walls — chalk white, warm grey, pale blush or soft olive all let it breathe, and it is a natural bedroom or dressing room print. In the white bed setting with the linen canopy shown in the photographs above the blossom reads as the only colour in the room. White and natural oak frames keep it light; black frames make the marble look colder and the pink hotter.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The blossom is made of many small petal shapes, so it gains real texture above 18" x 24". For a bedroom wall, 24" x 36" lets the flowering branches read individually.
Does it come framed? Paper ships unframed and rolled. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? SALEM in tall white capitals with OREGON set smaller directly beneath. The building carries no inscription in this artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
