A Rochester, Minnesota travel poster looking straight up a paved pedestrian plaza at the city's salmon-brick Art Deco tower, its stepped setbacks climbing to a carved crown and a small lantern with a spire, with lower limestone blocks closing the street on both sides.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges and a strict symmetrical, worm's-eye composition — the plaza paving runs out of the bottom edge and the tower sits dead centre. The palette is narrow and warm: coral and terracotta brick against a flat dusty teal sky, cream and oatmeal limestone on the neighbouring buildings, pale blue-grey paving, muted sage in the planter beds and small ochre awnings at street level. Detail worth finding: the repeated carved spandrel panels between the window bands, the deep vertical piers that make the tower read as fluted, the balconied setback about two thirds up, and the low glazed entrance canopy at the base. The printed type reads ROCHESTER above MINNESOTA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One building, drawn properly — this is an architectural portrait rather than a skyline, so every setback, pier and carved panel gets room.
- Coral against teal — an unusual, slightly retro colour pair that gives the print warmth without going orange.
- Genuine Art Deco — the stepped crown and lantern spire are the real thing, which is rare in a small Midwestern downtown.
- Symmetry that hangs easily — the centred composition sits well on its own or as the middle print in a group of three.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Coral brick and dusty teal are both muted, so this suits warm neutrals — cream, oat, clay and camel — better than cool grey. The terracotta wall in the photographs above shows the effect at its strongest, with the brick reading almost tonal against the paint. Espresso and walnut frames deepen the brick; a white frame lifts the limestone and keeps a home office looking crisp.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this Rochester in Minnesota or Rochester in New York? Minnesota. The subject is the downtown Art Deco brick tower on its pedestrian plaza in southern Minnesota. Our Rochester, New York print is a different artwork entirely, showing a river gorge and waterfall.
What size should I get? The carved panels and window bands are fine, so 18" x 24" upward is where the facade opens up. The tall centred tower suits 20" x 30" and 24" x 36" in a hallway or stairwell.
Does it come framed? Paper ships unframed and rolled. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? ROCHESTER in white capitals with MINNESOTA set smaller beneath. The buildings carry no signage or lettering.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
