A Richmond, Virginia travel poster looking up a still green canal from water level, with a blue steel arch footbridge crossing the middle distance, a second slimmer walkway behind it, brick warehouses rising straight out of the stone bank on both sides and the downtown glass towers stacked up beyond a concrete viaduct.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with hard edges, built in clear depth layers: stone riprap and shrubs in the foreground, canal, bridges, warehouses, viaduct, then skyline. The palette is dominated by deep teal and jade in the water, oxidised red and rust across the brick, a soft steel blue on the bridge rails and viaduct piers, olive and moss in the planting, and a pale mint sky with heavy cream cumulus. Details to look for: the thin black railing on the left bank, the vertical brick chimney on the right, the red reflection dragged down the water below the left warehouse, and the arched openings under the raised roadway. The printed type reads RICHMOND in white capitals above VIRGINIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Water carries half the picture — the canal fills the lower two thirds, so the print reads calm even though it is a city view.
- Brick and steel, not monuments — the working warehouse wall, the chimney and the arch bridge give Richmond its own industrial-river character rather than a generic downtown.
- Teal is the whole mood — jade water against rust brick is a quieter, cooler palette than most American city prints.
- Layers that reward distance — bridge, viaduct and towers stack cleanly, so it still reads as three separate planes from across a room.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Teal and rust are both muted here, so the print behaves like a neutral. It is easy on greige, warm white and pale olive walls, and it looks especially settled against the sage green wall in the photographs above, where the water and the paint share a temperature. Walnut and espresso frames pull the brick forward; a white frame keeps the canal cool and open.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The bridge railings and the warehouse windows are drawn in thin lines, so 18" x 24" upward keeps them readable. Over a bed or sofa, 24" x 36" matches the tall canal composition.
Does it come framed? Paper ships unframed and rolled. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? Only RICHMOND in tall white capitals with VIRGINIA set smaller below it. No signage or lettering appears on the buildings.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
