A Rapid City, South Dakota travel poster taken from inside the downtown fountain plaza, with jets rising in tiers out of circular pools, bronze statues standing on stone plinths at the corners, red brick storefronts closing both sides of the street and pine ridges folding away behind the town.
About the artwork
Hard-edged vector shapes with fine white line work for the falling water, which is the whole trick of the picture: every jet is drawn as hundreds of separate strokes. The palette is unusually cool for a prairie city, running pale aqua and chalk white through the water, dusty salmon and oxblood across the brick facades, muted sage on the domed turret and the second dome further down the block, then tan and blue-grey in the hills under a soft teal sky with tall cream cumulus. Details to find: the bronze figures in long coats on their granite pedestals, the ornate street lamp on the right, and the sculpted stone kerbs that shape each pool. The printed type reads RAPID CITY above SOUTH DAKOTA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Water is the subject — most city prints give you rooftops. This one puts you at pool level with spray in the foreground and a working plaza around it.
- The bronze presidents are in it — the life-size figures that stand on Rapid City's downtown corners appear on their plinths, a detail nobody who has walked that street forgets.
- Brick and aqua — warm oxblood facades against cool blue water is a colour pairing that carries a room without shouting.
- The hills stay in frame — pine ridges on the horizon place the town where it actually sits, at the edge of the high country.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The aqua and salmon combination is close to a faded seaside palette, so it lifts a white or pale grey wall and sits comfortably in a bathroom or a light kitchen as well as a living room. Against the terracotta wall in the photographs above the brick tones sing and the water reads almost mint. A white or natural wood frame keeps it airy; black weights it and sharpens the spray.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The water is drawn in very fine strokes, so bigger genuinely shows more. 18" x 24" is the smallest size where individual jets stay crisp; 24" x 36" is the one to pick if it is going above a sofa.
Does it come framed? Paper ships unframed and rolled. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? RAPID CITY in wide white capitals across the sky, with SOUTH DAKOTA set smaller beneath it. There is no other lettering.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
