A Quedlinburg travel poster from the bottom of a cobbled lane in low sun: half-timbered houses leaning in from both sides with red pantile roofs and orange-brown beams, and the castle hill closing the top of the street with its twin-towered church.
About the artwork
The lane is the drawing. Cobbles run up the centre in fanned courses, warm buff where the sun reaches and violet-grey in shadow, and the two rows of houses squeeze the view into a narrow slot with the hill framed at the end. The right-hand terrace gets the light: rust and ochre timbers over cream infill, panelled doors, sash and casement windows, sandstone plinths, and a brick chimney at the top. The left side falls into cool blue shadow, its roofs stepping down the slope one after another. At the head of the street the rock rises with the castle wall along its edge and the church above it in pale stone, both towers and the steep roof drawn clean against a flat teal sky. A small tree and a few tubs soften the middle of the lane. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Germany beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A street that pulls you in. The lane narrows to the castle hill, so the eye goes where it should.
- Sun on one side, shade on the other. The split light is what gives the print its depth.
- Orange, rust and cream. A warm palette lifted by one flat band of teal sky.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The warmth makes it a good print for a room that runs cool, and the tall narrow subject suits a hallway or a stairwell. It works on cream, putty and soft terracotta walls, and beside deep green paint the roof tiles glow. Wood tones suit it best — oak, beech, cane — with brass rather than chrome. Espresso or natural wood frames follow the timbering; black gives the shadows more snap. Hang it with the Nuremberg or Bamberg prints for a German old-town set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the building on the hill? The castle and its collegiate church on the sandstone bluff above the old town, seen from the lane below with both towers showing above the rooftops.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
